Many of us don’t think about our veins, but the intricate network of tubes is essential for optimal health. In fact, the veins carrying blood to and from your heart are keeping you alive. You should treat veins with respect. The best way to do that is through a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Hydrate A Lot

Hydrate or die. It’s a simple choice. Our bodies can go months without food but only a few days without water. And the importance of hydration for vein health cannot be understated. Water thins the blood, making circulation easier on your veins. Drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Or go for the gold by dividing your body weight by two and drinking that number in ounces per day.

Put The Heavy Weights Down

Your veins are put under tremendous stress when you rack that bar for heavy back squats. Driving heavyweight through your legs and heels creates unneeded pressure in your lower half. If you’re concerned about your veins, you might need to take a break from the heavy weights every once in a while. Try using lighter weights, or focus on cardio and plyometrics to increase circulation and vein health.

Get Your Vitamins Through Diet

Get your nutrition from food instead of supplements. Nutrition derived from whole food products has the biggest impact on your health. Foods rich in vitamins C and K will help your vein health tremendously. These include citrus and tropical fruits as well as leafy greens like kale.

Move All Day Long

Most of us sit at a desk for a living. Sitting, laying, or even standing in one place for a long time can have detrimental effects on your vein health. Set an alarm that goes off every hour to remind you to get up and move about the office. Don’t simply save your day’s movements for workouts while being sedentary the rest of the day.

Avoid Sugary Drinks

Your body secretes low-density lipoprotein in response to high levels of sugar. These proteins can get stuck and they build up as plaque. The blockages can wreak all sorts of havoc on your vein health. Swap out the soda or sports drink for a clean, refreshing bottle of water.

Hydration, certain types of exercise, nutrition and movement can all lead to optimal vein health. These simple adjustments can have you feeling your best and living healthier for longer. Raise an 8-ounce glass of water for you vein health today!
